Default Getting Sick During Carb Ups

My last 3 carb ups I have been feeling Ill. I get the worst stomach pains imagineable. I dont handle lactose very well and it's a pain similar to that when I drink too much milk. I dont get the bloating but it stil is rough. I just recently tried doing 2 small carb ups during the week to see if that'd help (smaller meals, smaller carb total) but no. I got down about 200gr of carbs last night (brown rice and ezekial bread pb&j's) and it started again.

I'm just wondering if I should switch over to a TKD type diet?

i also got a sick feeling when i tried carb cycling. probably not as bad as you though.

i then switched over to daily carbs all pre and post workout and i seemed to do better with that but still got slightly queasy after my workouts.

i'm of the opinion now that these drastic changes in diet are not healthy.
i believe that it's better to just keep it more consistent and gradually change your macros.

Before cause for mass hysteria erupts on those that have ever contemplated a CKD...I'd ask if you could be more specific on what exactly you are consuming during your carb-ups?

Also, discuss the caloric intake if you wouldn't mind between your weekly low-carb menu and your weekend carb-up.

As g_lee points out, it is not atypical for people to find some discomfort the first week or perhaps even two (dependent upon how they are doing it - though there are many apprehensions people have during that time and it takes about 2 good weeks to "REALLY" get comfortable with the appropriate protocol), but beyond that...this is actually most unusual.

I'm certainly not of the mindset of Hank as I have helped over 2,500 people use carb-ups at one point or another in their body composition plights with little to no issue at all; though I do still argue adequate completion to be more of a science. This glycogen supercompensation style scheme dates back ages upon ages (even before Zumpano/Duchaine's original UD) and it is very well documented, so my true thoughts include taking a closer look at what EXACTLY it is that comprises your carb-up and such and we'll see if we can't help you from there. Sound like a plan?

Works for me!!!!

Usual calorie intake

~2,600cals
Fat:205
Carbs:<30
Fiber:25-30
Protein:185

Intake before Carb-Ups
Fat:160
Carbs:<25
Fiber:20
Protein:165

Intake During carb ups
Fat: minimal
Carbs: usually 200 before I start to get that feeling
Protein: 35-40

Foods Ingested
-60-75gr Waxy Maize Startch Immedietly Post workout
-1 cup (cooked Brown Rice)=~125gr carbs
-1 slice Ezekial Bread, 1 slice 100% whole wheat bread=~40gr carbs
-1TBS peanut butter
-2TBS jam=~15gr carbs
-Small protein shake with meals

-I take digestive enzymes and an acidophilis(sp?) daily.

I should also note that i'm going on my 6th week of the diet, oddly enough this did not start until the 3rd carb-up and has been slowly getting worse since. I do however not feel like im in a coma anymore, lol.

Thanks for your help D

maybe try more liquid carbs, as they require less processing than the starches you are ingesting

I would use the ezekiel bread in its own meal, maybe make some french toast with it or something..... that is a very dense bread and is a complete protein source, you are mixing all sorts of high and low glycemic carbs here, some fast digesting some slow, go from fast/liquid to slower/solid types of foods....

I usually go with:
2 shakes PWO
140g WMS/Malto carbs
20g whey
10g glutamine

2 meals:
Skim Milk
Cereal
Rice Cakes

3 meals:
sushi (minus avocado) its a giant platter from meijers

day 2:
1 meal
milk
cereal

3 meals
salmon or chicken
brown rice

2 meals
oatmeal
whey

1 meal
malto/crystal light drink
10g bcaa's
10g glutamine
milk

Thanks B. I do know that during my first few carb loads my first things had pepsi as a part of them at the movies With some Beverly Mass Amino's. I did feel real full muscle wise while drinking it with no real stomach issues.
