Default K-R-ALA Supplementation, Low Carb Weight Rebound, among other questions...

Hello Dr. Houser,

A few moments of your time, of course if you don't mind. :D

I'm coming off a low-carb diet, UD 2.0/Dave Palumbo Cut Diet, and have been introducing carbs again. I'm also supplementing K-R-ALA (Glucophase XR w/ extra Geranova K-R-ALA) in hopes to avoid spill over. Anything else I could do to avoid excess "fat" gains?

Thanks!

Hey there,

Thanks for the question as I am certain you are not the only one in that position. Keto diet questions are probably about the 3rd most common type of question I receive on a daily basis.

The most effective modifier to come off a keto-style diet is just that...diet with a ramp-up in overall calories (a predominance coming from MORE protein first stressing gluconeogenic conversion, followed by VERY-low glycemic carbs, then a switch over to some smaller chain triglycerides and/or DAG - i.e. - ENOVA oil would also be prudent).

Be wary of getting too much K-R-ALA in your diet as too much could certainly prove PRO-oxidant as well, despite the best of intentions. A good addition might be supplementing with something called Cinnergen, a cranberry/cinnamon liquid supplement that many have significant success with. There are no calories, but a proprietary blend designed to re-regulate Thyroid, most-oftentimes depressed in a hypOcaloric state that accompanies many low-carb diets as well as blood sugar modifiers and even digestive enzymes that prove absolutely pivotal when trying to digest something your body has essentially become inefficient at digesting - namely the amylase, lactase, and cellulase are hugely important...but you could find alternative digestive enzymes to support your plight in other scenarios).

[Please Note: Dr. Houser has absolutely ZERO vested interest in this Cinnergen product and has merely offered this as a product many clients have had success with; though some find the cinnamon portion uncomfortable in going down; use with caution if you suffer from acid reflux issues]

Thyroid supplements could also play an imperitive role for reasons already defined above, but again...I cannot reiterate enough that diet will be the most tell-tale offering.

When I was in a frat, one hazing activitie/challenge, was to see which pledges could eat a tablespoon of cinnamon. *laughs* I can imagine some people having some disagreements with Cinnergen.

Yes, there are some personl blood-sugar recipies that I will post either in the BO:R section of this subforum or on my own website when it officially goes live. In either event, there may be better ways to incorporate cinnamon - some people straight shoot which makes life difficult ... sure, but it is almost like a right of passage if one can truly do it raw.

Other ingredients may/may not impede absorption, at least theoretically.
