That dude wasn't big, just cut, and that workout wasn't extremely HARD, just a lot of fricken sets. I could do 5 of those sets no problem, no way in hell 10, but give me 3 months training and it's gravy brutha. Just start doing pullups dude, they really are the best back workout (next to deads :D )

He wasn't a monster, but he was pretty big, his back was real thick, his christmas tree was sick IMO.

I know Pullups/Chinups are good for lat development, but can they really develop lower back and thickness like that alone ?

Ya, the swing is called "kipping", they are used to develop explosive power, and are like assisted reps that work the top portion of the rep as well as the negative, try them, when you come down with that momentum you feel them. Pavel suggests negative reps to increase pullup strength, they do work.

Agreed; although one might say that pull-ups are better then deads for lat width, and deads are better for thickness... ala DC...

if you are using your whole back, and arching your back as you pull up, then yes, absolutely, see RA's comment above.
