Default Smith Machine Question

So just a quick question about the smith. Does anyone know what the base weight is with no weight? I am just curious as to the base weight for when I do shoulder presses on it tommorow, thanks in advance.

It all depends the machine man, I used to have one and it added another 10 lbs to the bar, but the paramount one at my gym actually takes weight off b/c its slightly counterbalanced.

why are you worried about the weight anyways? Only reason I can think would be for your training journal and if thats the case either just "say" the bars 45 or just count the plates. ITs your journal so you will know what ur talking about for reference.

For sure, ya its for my training journal. Also I've never really done machine presses before so I wanted to gauge what to try and do tomorrow.

I love using the smith machine for concentrating on the muscle I want to work (upper chest or delts). I never use the thing for squats just because I think it defeats the purpose of what the movement is used for.

Sorry, I got off the subject. Yes, it really depends on the machine. As I have two gyms I frequent. One gym has a counter balance and makes the bar pretty light and slow moving, the other is only guided and weighs 45lbs.

My shoulder stabilizers are golden I always do a good ammt. of rotator cuff work, and AC joint strength, stability, and ROM work.

Yeah, if smith is ALL you use...but smith work does not hurt in fact its helpful if you don't have a spot or anything.

I'd rather do dumbbells if I think I need a spot, or do some post-exhaustion. And finding a good spotter is hard work...
