I know this video has been posted already (by gixxer), but it fits in perfectly here with regards to your question.

Good point and one that is often overlooked. I've heard that Kevin Levrone took anywhere up to 6 months off with no training after a competition to let his body recover. I think he is an extreme though as I have seen interviews with Yates, who said that the week after the Olympia he was back in the gym training and dieting. So like said before, it's all about listening to your body.

I have trained a number of different ways. I started out doing body part splits, then I did full body, now I do upper/lower. I still change it up from time to time. But the most important factor I have noticed with me and it is obvious if you look at how other people train as well is volume. Bodybuilders generally do a much greater volume of work in a shorter period of time than Olympic lifters or powerlifters. Olympic lifters generally have a high volume but over a course of the week. Powerlifters generally have a lower volume (however notice how many of them incorporate a repetition day). It really depends on how you define volume but bodybuilders do more sets and more reps in less time than other lifters.

There's a difference between someone telling you HOW to train, and someone telling you how to perform different exercises. There is a right and a wrong way to each exercise.
