Default Help Needed ( Resting Muscle )

I have heard from many people the importance of resting muscle for it to regenerate after strenuous exercise. What are your thoughts on this.

I am trying to make an exercise plan for me. I am not into weights or anything, just simple sit ups, push ups, pull ups, etc. I was doing sets of 15-20 push ups at a time a couple times each day. I am thinking I can do this easily after a few minutes rest, but just for the sake of not being annoyed, I could decide to do that amount every half hour and then increase it as I get stronger. My only issue with this is, how often and for how long should I be resting. I was thinking of doing this system every other day, allowing a day for rest.

What do you think my best plan would be?

Thanks, John

Well, first I have to ask why you arent using weights when training. You will only get so far using your body weight for excercises, then you will need to start adding some sort of resistance. I think you would be alot better off training with weights, even if its something like a fullbody, lightweight workout for 30 minutes every other day rather than doing the same 3-4 excercises every 30 minutes. Just my opinion though.

Thanks for the tips. I am a bit out of shape so that is why I was considering starting with body weight and as that got easier start using weights.

i agree with ENIGMA (bouncing boobies)...your body with adapt quickly when only using its own weight as resistence.....i suggest some bands for resistence if you dont want to use dumbbells or barbells yet.....
you could try some explosive pushups (trying to come up as fast as possible and actually coming off the ground each time) to increase the intensity..and try to incorporate some pull-ups and shoulder presses (hand stand position then lowering down and pushing back up) untill you decide to try weights
this should help your body get ready for the weights.......but i would eventually start training with weights...imo

Even if you are only using very light weight, it will benifit you more than using only your body weight. You should be breaking a good sweat during your strength training, and i cant imagine that happening only using your body weight. You dont have to rush, just try and progress steadily. If you are just starting your workout program, you should see alot of gains within the first 2-3 months of training.

Thanks again guys. I do not want to get any big weights since I have no room ATM and not too much money ( I am going to be buying a car soon so I am saving ). I am definitely looking for some cheap smaller weights. My grandfather had two 10 pound dumbells which I could lift easily. Every time I go to his house I left them and now I can go for a long time with them, with pretty much any exercise with the arms.

At school in gym class I was working with 25 pounds. Obviously I couldn't go near as long but I was breaking a sweat and felt a lot more worn out after lifting them for a while.

My biggest issue though is when to rest regardless what kind of exercise I am doing.
