Default Stretching

The flexibility in my hips and hip flexors is really bad. So much so that I have trouble running comfortably sometimes.

I have begun doing about 20-30 minutes of lower body static stretching before I do cardio, which is usually between 9-11 am. By the time bedtime rolls around I have been feeling pretty stiff.

Should I stretch again before bed? I've never been on a stretching program before so I don't know how the body reacts. It almost feels like I am less flexible at night than I am before I stretch in the morning.

THoughts?

Dynamic stretch pre-wo/cardio. Do you still live in the 80's with that static stretcing? Foam roll the shit out of your hip flexors, IT band, psoas, etc. You can do pre-wo static hip flexor stretches (warrior stretch is a good one). Get dynamic with that shit rugger. Makes a huge difference imo. Static stretching is for a few hours post-wo or pre-bed.

Yep LOVE foam rolling.... Hurts so good I have Eric Cresseys newer book and has a lot of great warm up stuff.

I also do dynamic stretching, but for flexibility static stretching still rules. Dynamic is more for mobility/warming up.

I used to have the same hip flexibility issues. I started doing foam rolls and core and body exercise ball workouts and I've dramatically improved.

totally agree here, though I don't do foam roller stretching, but its just cuz I haven't invested in one yet.

Best "supplement" I've ever purchased. I actually now use a foam roller to warm up then move onto a large pvc pipe to really foam roll the tight areas out. It's one of those things that "hurts so good"
