Default Anyone use the 'Manta Ray' for squats?

i'm lookin at gettin one of these but wonderin if someone has used one and didn't like it. its a neck pad of sorts that distributes the weight a little on the shoulders. due to a couple of car accidents(no not my fault)my neck and back are about as good as squirt guns on a forest fire. now that my weight on squats is increasing rapidly my neck cannot handle the pressure. anyone got some input?

my first thought is not put too much pressure on an injured part, but then I do not know where you are at with rehab or where you can go etc. it is not padded, it is plastic if you did not know but not uncomfortable.

i have used the manta ray and the sting ray( for front SQs), although never ate or swam with either. it will put the weight higher up but makes the SQs a bit different and harder. so you will need to be aware of that and make adjustments. you will SQ more upright than before but still will place a good deal of stress on low back. they are not expensive and they will last so you may want to give it a try. if you have a safety squat bar you might try those as well. problem being once you get stronger no matter what you do if you SQ you need to be careful as it is going to stress neck/back. Good luck and glad to hear you are going to train through your injures and not give up.

with rehab for the most part its on a need to go basis. my accidents were from 97' one month appart. a few months ago i ended up back in physical therapy due to muscle spasm tension curving the spine(i forget the name for this). my back is my only part of the body i cannot train with extremely heavy weight. i'm pretty much stuck with a low weight high rep workout here. as long as i use good form and keep my head looking up i can do a deep squat but the pain it drives into my neck is like getting stuck with a knife. so really i'm just lookin to see if i can relieve a little stress right at the spine. as far as this stoppin me from trainin NO WAY BROTHER!!!!!!!! I'm 225 or die tryin.(just got to 200 this mornin for the first time in my life)

I use the Manta Ray for Squats...have since High School(10 years) I think its a great device and helps to balance the weight on your traps instead of your neck, but if you are already hurt I would have to side with the rest of the guys and say give it some time. Then buy the Manta Ray...it really does make a BIG difference.
