Eating w/ your sig. other
I'm on a CKD right now, but even when I'm not, I prepare different meals for my husband and I. Sometimes it gets on his nerves (usually not, though), and I just wanted to know if you and your significant other eat the same meals when eating together. Please share.

I've definitely ran into this, esp when dieting, it's a pain for the other person, but they need to be somewhat involved, my fiancee took awhile before she got used to eating certain things, but we are on different schedules so it only made a few meals awkward

I understand this issue completely, notice how I use "she cooks all my meals for me" as a reason why my wife loves me in my intro? It's a PITA, but she does it... she recognizes how important it is to me. Actually, I think we both know that if she didn't, I would just go to the store, buy the food I need, and cook it myself; I'm that into my goals in the gym.
But that being said, it's never really been much of an issue with us, she makes separate meals for me, tries to be creative, tries to make them to my demanding and changing specifications. Heck, I've got 4 kids, and we like to enjoy our meals, so we don't eat at the same time as them... so to be honest, it's a good night if my wife and I even eat at the same time. Sometimes, she cooks one meal for the kids, and another for us, where I just don't get the carbs (e.g. steak and potatoes, and I just get a pound of steak ) as I almost always taper... if it's past 8pm, and I'm gonna eat carbs, then I'm cheating, and it's gonna be cookies, not potatoes.
We're lucky though, in that she stays home full time with the kids, so I think it makes it easier when only one parental unit/spouse is away from the homestead.
So, am I hearing that your hubby gets a little miffed when you make him what he wants, and you make yourself what you need for your diet; presumably at least in part to look better for him? Heck, I'd be thrilled if my lady even WENT on a diet; I mean she's on one, but it's that seafood diet... she sees food, she eats it. Come to think of it, I'm the only one who really watches what I eat in my family... everyone else just closes their eyes and shovels.
Tell him if he keeps it up, he'll be eating what's on your plate (or worse you'll start eating the same as him, just twice as much!) or getting a Julia Child book for Xmas!

Ya, I agree with the guys here. My wife and I try to eat similarly, but in different portions. Lunch for example, we eat different main items a lot of the time, but we both start out with a salad, she has a larger one, I have a smaller one. (And before anyone starts with the no nut. value, lettuce is one of the smallest components in ours, we have lots of veggies.) This way it feels as though we are supporting eachothers diets. We each have snacks throughout the day, hers are smaller, mine are more like another full meal.
Sometimes it's just hard, but hopefully everyones other half is understanding that to bulk, you need to eat like a horse, and to cut you need to eat really smart and be picky.
Best of luck to you.

LOL. I'm sure she's a great cook! LOL -- I remember one time, I made this turkey meatloaf for my husband and I for dinner, and the meat came out this greyish color, and he look horrified when he saw it. THAT was when I started cooking separate meals for the two of us!
B-Nat -- Congrats on your engagement! I'm glad to hear that you guys have found a way to make it work -- perhaps if I stay at it and he sees that this way of eating really *is* better for me, he will become more supportive.
Muad - Your wife must stay BUSY trying to cook all of you guys different meals! LOL. I don't work, and preparing two sets of meals for the two of us sometimes feels like like a lot! LOL!! But the reason I work out and (try to) eat right is ALL because of ME! He has very little to do with it. He is very accepting of me, no matter how I look. In fact, I think he would be happier if *I* could accept myself.
Hmmmm... that sounded so very Dr. Phil-like. LOL.
Paladin -- Thanks for sharing! LOL -- I literally laughed outloud when you defended your salad - are people that critical about it? I see lettuce as one of those neutral things: I know it's not really that good for you, but it's really not doing any harm! It sounds like you and your wife really have something that works for you! You're blessed!
Yesterday, I talked a bit about how tapering carbs throughout the day is a great idea, and how HE should join me in saying NO to carbs after 5. Surprisigly, he decided to join me to show his support of my new(er) eating habits.

My wife is all up for me eating how i want too. Really it is harder on me cause i feel bad making her cook 2 different things or either her not feeling like cooking 2 different things and just fixing mine then she just eats a sandwich or something. Sometimes i eat really good during the day and my only cheat meal comes at night when we have supper. Most of the time though if it does have CHO's she uses whole wheat flour or whole wheat noodles or something, so it is not all that bad. I cant complain anyways. If i could look like her and eat the way she did that would be FANTASTIC.
