Default Post Workout Carbs

What is the best source of carbs post workout? I usually try to drink a protein shake and have some sort of fruit. Peaches, bananna, apple, etc. Is this the best source of carbs post workout, or would something else be better? Also, if some other food is better than fruit post workout, please explain why it is preferred.

Any type of simple carb will do the trick. Dextrose is very good, cheap, and mixes well. It is absorbed by the body quickly. Chocolate milk has a similar effect. Fruit is good in that it creates an insulin spike which of course builds muscle very quickly, however it also creates a non glucogen effect or ( keeps adipose ). All simple carbs do this however I think some fruits do this alittle more.

Fruit does a poor job of creating an insulin spike IMO. I would rather see you use Waxy Maize or HONEY... lol

You can buy it in bulk like dextrose. It technically absorbs faster than dextrose. Another one in hydrolyzed rice syrup but I don't know much about it. Its in a product by Omega Sports called Omega One which is a high leucine product that looks very interesting.

Honey is an awesome fast carb. Back when I used to play lacrosse, everyone used to keep a jar in their bag to suck down on the sidelines.

I'm currently using WMS. Though I prefer slower carbs (i.e. oats), I work out so freaking early in the morning (4:30am) that it's hard for me to get carbs in my system in time before I lift.

The best deal going IMO is Torrent by Universal Nutrition. It has hydrolyzed whey, waxy maize, simple sugars(dextrose I think), 8g of leucine, and creatine all in one. Very cheap at discountanabolics for a months supply!

I take 1.5 scoops of ON's whey, mixed with NOW Foods Dextrose, and their "Carbo Gainer" (Maltodextrin). Dextrose/Maltodextrin 50/50. I take 70 grams total along with 5grams glutamine (my glutamine doesnt mix worth a shit and tastes horrible, but who cares about taste when your puttin on the lbs).

I believe that dinoiii said something like "fruit makes you fat"... the fructose in fruit preferentially refills liver glycogen, so if liver glycogen is full, it goes to fat? or something like this... I'm sure I'm oversimplifying, but I don't usually eat much fruit because of this... although I've seen some reference to using fruit on a diet (eat fruit before eating carbs on high carb days on a carb-cycle to reduce the "starvation" response of low liver glycogen that tends to cause a carb-binge)...
