Carb Cyclic Diet
Diet
I am pre-planning my diet for the 2009 season. This should help to have all of the details in line and ready to go, so there are no questions left unanswered.
My plan is to have 3 days of low/no carb days, followed by a "re-feed/supercompensation" day.
My calorie intake will be determined at the start of my diet, because I feel that cutting calories from the intake you are at when starting a diet is best (Some tend to follow the numbers game, i.e. 13,14,15x bw). My level of carbohydrates will more than likely start at around 100g or <. My refeed days will be determined by a calculation similar to what I found effective on the CKD, and whether it is the best method or even one that will "work" I do not know at this point. My carbs will start somewhat high, as it will be the main macro that I will be reducing throughout the first part of the diet.
Macro Sources:
Protein-
--Lean Meat varieties
--Eggs
--Fish
--Whey Protein
Fat-
--Healthy Oils (EVOO, Sesame, ENOVA, Fish Oil, etc.)
--Nuts (Walnuts, Almonds, Pecans) I believe this is the main 3
--Egg Yolks (there won't be many in the diet, but there will still be a moderate/small amount in the diet, its not as bad as one might think)
--Natural sources from food
Carbs-
*Here's where it gets tricky as most have differing opinions on what is "allowed" on certain days. For the low/no carb days they will come from moderate/low glycemic carbs and those found in veggies and nuts*
**For higher carb days I will stick to the starchy variety, such as yams, sweet potatoes, brown rice, oatmeal, ezekiel bread, etc. I will not be consuming fruit as it tends to refill the liver (unless I find some reason its imperative to have a small amount).**
The diet will be similar to the "Game Over" diet that was produced by the guys from Scivation/Primaforce. There are differences in the diet, but just wanted to make it clear that there will be some similarities between the two diets.
Training
As far as training goes, this could be discussed in the training section, but it seems easier and more accessible for those that want to offer opinions (seeing both the diet and training helps give more of a visual aid, at least IMO).
Having done a CKD, what I find for training is far from what I was doing on the CKD. I will have to research a little more to find a suitable training program to suit the diet. The main thing/topic that seems to get to me is how most seem to have their most difficult workouts based around their high-carb days, which would seem opposite to me. I can understand have the toughest workout the day after a high carb day, but to truly "refill" your glycogen stores, it would seem that ancillary work immediately BEFORE starting the "refeed" days would be best (or having a day off).
Right now my thoughts are a 3-4day split, 3 would seem optimal, followed by an off day (which would be the "refeed" day), or maybe a strength/hypertrophy split that I had devised earlier, where I'd do 2 strength workouts, followed by a day or two off, then a 3 day hypertrophy split, followed by a day off. We will see as the weeks and research progress.
This is not supposed to be an informative article, where I am preaching on a topic I know and am listing the ins and outs, this is my "think out loud" approach to learning about the Carb Cyclic Diet and possibly be a reference for those embarking on a similar diet (as I assume there will be a lot of q&a going on in here, or one can hope).
