Default Isocaloric dieting

Anyone on this board a fan of isocaloric dieting?

I have tried moderate protein high fat ~0 carb (anabolic diet) with partial success- found it was good for fatloss but not so great for maintaining anabolism. I found it to be slightly catabolic

** I felt pretty good on the high fat diet, I could feel that it was good for my hormone profile by my mood, energy levels and libido. However, training on this type of diet is tricky. carbs play a big role in training as far as glycogen goes. IMO

I have tried moderate/high protein, moderate carbs low fat dieting with almost no success- i am starting to believe that I am somewhat carb sensitive

I have tried high protein, low carb, low fat diet which did nothing but make the diet hard to stomach, and gave me acid reflux

I am now going to try an isocaloric diet, when cutting I will take my off days and cut the carbs while increasing the protein and have a re-feed day every once in a while IF necessary which I doubt. If bulking I will just keep the calories consistently high with a cheat meal once a week thats not necessarily sloppy but just much higher in calories.

anyone else try, have success with, or dislike isocaloric diets for any given reason?

Just so I am clear an isocaloric diet would be:

Workout Days: Moderate protein, moderate fat, low to moderate carb
Non-Workout Days: Mod pro, mod/high fat, no to low carb

Correct? I'm currently TKD'ing however I feel I would benefit more taking a couple workout days and even low/no carbing them to get to keto quicker.

FVCK i typed a crap load and hit the back button and it erased so starting over....

isocaloric meaning 33/33/33 macronutrient split (as far as cals go)

I have been readign a big thread on MD forums which is a Q and A with the new pro Evan Centopani. Hes a really great, realistic, down to earth, honest and smart guy. Speaks candidly to the use of AAS, and to his lifestyle which before turning pro is very similar to ours- students/jobs etc.

He works with Dave polumbo (same guy that trains Ted- the NPC nationals 5th place guy i train with now).

Polumbo believes in keto pre contest dieting for HIM at least. Many of his clients respond well to it. Evan certainly does. Both these gentlemen are also fans of keeping fat intake high in the off season.

I read some things by charles poliquin too which sparked me on the thought of adapting my diet according to cultural evolution. I come from a long line of 100% eastern Europeans. our diets were mostly meat, and fat. My grandmother smoked for most of her life, eats butter, meat etc and besides being in bad shape, unhealthy etc, will probably live forever it seems. So fats is where its at for me.

I FEEL so much better now that i am eating 1.5g protein per lb bodyweight, matchign those cals in fat cals from good fats and omega 3's etc and then addign 300carbs to my day. Acid reflux-gone, bloating- gone, appetite in full force, energy is back, drive is back. not sluggish or tired.

When i cut it will definitely be in ketosis with AAS.

I think its important for everyone to consider their heritage when it comes to determining how to diet. My body doesnt like glucose. Despite not looking like total shit, i FEEL like total shit on high carb, high protein diets with low fat and even shittier on high protein, low fat, low carb diets. (glucogenesis isnt efficient and my body needs the fat it seems). no doubting high protein, low carb, low fat diets would work but still. The mental aspect is a HUGE part. I couldnt keep doign what i was doing. I felt like shit all the time.

i dont feel AS "full" but i look better so far... we'll see. maybe i need a few more carbs in my day etc.

I think in full ketosis its possible to lean bulk. in fact it would probably be a very lean bulk if the diet is clean and not going overboard. theres no deception from glycogen, bloating etc. just clean LBM. the diet is very supportive of protein synthesis. Would work even better with some androgens.

I need to research more but there is some correlation of low carb and increases SHBG, so something like divanil on a low carb diet would probably work well....

hmm thats interesting? I wonder what would cause that ? anyway Im not really eating low carb. Its more like 33/33/33 maybe a little higher protein than carbs but I go by portions and adjust according to how I look since i eat the SAME things each day. I dont really get tired of it either. Consistency is addictive for me.

whats your diet breakdown?

so far I look better having changed my diet. I am stronger, better pumps and more full. I havent weighed myself but i LOOK bigger and better so its working!
