Default question about oatmeal

How much worse is instant oatmeal for you than original oatmeal? I am not a fan of the taste of just plain ole' oatmeal, so I've been eating sugar free maple and brown sugar instant oatmeal. If it is that much worse for me, then what can I do to make plain oatmeal more tasteful, and still keep it healthy?

I find when I cut out all the sweets and processed foods, the more natural/healthy foods start tasting better.

I'm not a big fan of 'it has to taste good' in order to eat/drink it. In my mind it's a matter of fueling the body...taste is not a major concern for me. I know that not everyone is like that.

That said...give yourself a chance to 'get a taste' for more natural/less processed foods. You'll be surprised how good things like plain ol oats can taste!

works well with apples/cinnamon/splenda.

I'm actually staring at a box of low fat granola that i bought and it has a recipe for whats called, Apple Brown Betty, I'll post it up with my revisions:

4-6 Medium Apples
1 cup Low Fat Granola w/o Raisins (this is the product I have)
1/3c splenda brown sugar (they listed regular brown sugar, packed)
2 Scoops Vanilla Whey Protein (they listed flour)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4c almond or peanut butter (they listed melted butter)

Preheat oven to 350
peel, core and slice apples and arrange in 8" baking dish
combine cereal, splenda, protein, cinnamon, salt, then add almond butter and mix until crumbly
sprinkle mixture over apples
bake 30 minutes

Makes 6 servings

top with lowfat ice cream or yogurt.
