just wondering if i'm missing something here........but there seems to be alot of guys using shakes to support their protein intakes throughout the day. wouldn't it be easier to use solid foods for digestion. i know that the isolates now are supposed to be as easy as baby formula as far as gettin it to the blood stream but i personally think using tuna, yogurt, left over chicken from the night before are better ways to fill in your protein snacks during the day. maybe i'm wrong or its just simple convenience but the only time i like to use the protein shake is immediately after workout.
i'm one of the "guilty". i work 9-10hr days so i supplement with a shake in between meals to help keep me full. i only get say around 90 of my 180 requirement from it. so yeah half lol
Around workout shakes are probably better than real food, all other times whole foods are the best bet for both aesthetics and health.
However, when eating 5-8 meals a day it can get costly and be a hassle to not use shakes for some of those meals that youd rather not. When I am on campus all day packing 3-4 meals is not practical, but bringing a shaker is so much easier and convenient.
I use three shakes a day but its hard to stop and eat every few hours when you would be holding up a million dollar constuction job because I need to eat some tuna So whatever it takes to get my daily protein fix I will do including shakes

look i'm not tryin to piss anyone off who likes to supplement with shakes. and i agree that pre or post workout shakes are the best but i had just been readin some of the workout journals where the guys were drinkin sometimes 4 a day and completely replacing meals. was simply wonderin if there could be that much of a benefit maybe with the whey isolate as apposed to the concentrate of old. and as far as the tuna goes one can has a solid 20-25g's of protein plus omega-3(not a lot) that is just as quick as a shake not holdin up anyone at work. i realize that the big guys need more but the guy thats tryin to hit 200g's for the day would do just fine with that a few times a day plus meals.

I tried the real food for a while since I was working from home and could make food at my convenience. After 2 months I started to notice that money was flying out of my account. I'm a picky eater. I can slam a protein shake an it's gone in under 5 but I can't eat stuff from a can or live off beef jerky. Turkey, Chicken, Ostrich, Buffalo, Emu, fresh Fish, egg whites, steak etc gets pricey as hell after a while. So for me it's all about cost. If I could afford 10lbs of fillet mignon a day I'd do it.
