I love deads and back work in general, but i must disagree with my multiple reps being a poor idea.
I mean if you have good form then you should have no issue going 10 reps and being solid.
When i started deads i did 12-15 reps with room to spare for about 2 months for gettin used to it and strengthening the muscle i wasnt used to working so hard.
Once i go tused to it i now do a pyramid up. Not max on every set, usually 10-6-6-6-3-3-1(if i feel i can)
I dont push hard and if i do i bail or stop if i feel my form slip in the slightest, i have before.
I think it should be more pending why you are doing deads(i know this was mentioned) and the experience you have.
Also, i do "speed deads" sometimes casue i feel it does imporve being able to stabalize the weight and endurance.
PS- Sometimes the bar makes my shins raw and red. It has to be that close though otherwise my shoulder wander to far forward, so i must say again, weight pending and experience pending.
