The hand ball in Italy's box from the spanish player IN ANY OTHER game would have been a red card. You get a red card for hands on the ball if you were aware that the ball was being balanced by your hands. Next, when the Spanish player kicked the ball at the goalie well after game had stopped and hit Buffon..that was a yellow, and it happened to be villa, so that was a red card (two yellows).

While the ref did suck, the 3 fouls would have been free kicks........they landed in the box, but the fouls were at the corners and on the lines, which no ref would ever dare taking a risk and awarding a penalty. So 3 very close free kicks for Spain, could of made a huge difference, but even the announcers who constantly ripped on Italy admitted that that defence was unbreakable.
I hate to see my country lose, as passionate as I am, but Spain did show up, in a good mood, all the starting players played for them (unlike the Italians like Totti who could care less), and they were the better team, so they won. On any given day, I would chose Italy over Spain with starting line ups. I just think the WC win for Italy was great, but it also hurt them by making them cocky and overrated (like Luca Toni, who I still don't think is better than Del Piero).
