Default MMA Olympics

If MMA was currently an olympic event who do you have winning the medals in the common weight classes? My picks:

Heavyweight: Gold: Fedor Emelianenko Russia
Silver: Randy Couture USA
Bronze: Andrei Arlovski Belarus

Top spot is pretty easy. Lots of guys could pick up the last two spots.

Light Heavyweight: Gold: Lyoto Machida Brazil
Silver: Chuck Liddell USA
Bronze: Wanderlei Silva Brazil

Probably the toughest to call. Without a long training camp to gear up for a specific opponent I'm not picking Forrest to medal. Also, Rampage is pretty much out of the running given that the Olympics are going on right now and his current problems would likely hold him out.

Middleweight: Gold: Anderson Silva Brazil
Silver: Rich Franklin USA
Bronze: Nathan Marquardt USA

Gold is a no-brainer. Lots of good competition for the second two spots. Filho hasn't looked good lately so I don't have him medalling. Dan Henderson or Matt Lindland could also pick up silver or bronze.

Welterweight: Gold: George St. Pierre Canada
Silver: Josh Koscheck USA
Bronze: Jake Shields USA

Gold is a pretty easy decision. Silver and Bronze is hard to call. Fitch, Diego, and Alves all would be in the running.

Lightweight: Gold: BJ Penn USA
Silver: Kenny Florian USA
Bronze: Tyson Griffin USA

I'm picking an all USA sweep of the medals. Calvancante is still out with a knee injury so he is out of the running. I know Sherk beat Florian already, but he has improved markedly since that point. Eddie Alvarez and Shinya Aoki could also give it a good run and take silver or bronze. I don't see anyone beating BJ though, and Gomi isn't really a 155lber.

Not to sure. It is hard to say because both of those guys are so potent. I think GSB could have the advantage as it is his weight class and BJ will have to come in heavier then normal. Although we have all seen that BJ can come in heavy. If BJ wins he will have won a belt in 3 different weight classes!

Fedor would win gold for sure.

GSP ugh no I honestly don't think he would win gold, his jaw is made of glass. Silver or Bronze for sure.

Light Heavy Weight:
Honestly Forrest Griffin, Rampage Jackson, and Dan Henderson would beat all 3 of those guys, Maybe if Silva was still in his prime but not now. Liddell is overrated (sorry)

Heavy: I think it's a toss up for Silver down, Randy is getting old, Andrei is so back and forth with his fight quality, And I think Cro Cop would do some major damage if this was in a tournament type series

Plus it matters what kind of playing ground they would use.... like cage or ring?

One punch right on the button from Serra does not a glass jaw make. Who at 170 is gonna beat him? BJ is at lightweight theoretically so he is out of the running.

I love Forrest, but without months to gameplan I don't see him beating Liddell or Silva and to be honest I don't see ANYONE currently at 205 beating Machida. In his current mental state I think Wanderlei would beat Rampage handily.

I think Couture would put CroCop on his back and absolutely maul him. Also in a tournament type format you gotta pick durable guys that don't sustain a ton of damage in their fights, which is my reason for not having big Nog there.

Plus it matters what kind of playing ground they would use.... like cage or ring?

One punch right on the button from Serra does not a glass jaw make. Who at 170 can beat him, not counting BJ if he is fighting at LW?

Good discussion though, thanks for the response.
