Well, this is how I look at it:
The brain is the first place that gets glucose, its the number one priority. Then the muscles, then fat stores. Once your muscles get its fill of glucose then it spills over to fat stores. Taking RALA will help keep insulin levels stable versus more of a spike and drop than without it, so you may get a more sustained level of nutrient shuttling. I don't think you are really more likely to put on fat with RALA, you get LESS overall insulin secretion, and insulin is a fat synthesizing hormone. Plus, I think eating too many OVERALL calories will have a greater effect on fat gain.
Keeping blood glucose levels stable throughout the day is key to improved body composition, something a insulin mimetic (ALA) will do.
