I actually work with 2 brilliant chemists with MS degrees and they both make as much as me, but are still paying off student loans.
They both thought that the higher the degree the better the money.
Oh yeah... because the University told them...LOL Remember Universities are BIG BUSINESS.

They don't regret the knowledge though.
PhD... if you ever want to teach at a university level or head up a research project and need grant money, then go for the PhD.
Bench top lab work...BS is all you'll ever need. We actually screen OUT PhD's for any bench top analytical positions they apply for (yes they do apply).
It's like hiring a mechanical engineer to be a garage mechanic.
