Default i need advice on a career change

well i am currently a manager of a health club. but we (my wife and i) moved four hours away (from her home) to take this job and now she is very unhappy and home sick. our lease on our apt is up in july and she wants to move....the bad thing is the economy in louisiana SUCKS. and its very difficult for me to find something that i will be happy doing...you guys have any suggestions? i am currently thinking about going into law enforcement and possibly woring part time as a personal trainer in my old gym or even eventually opening up my own supplement store. what do you guys think?

I wouldn't advise the 'opening a supplement store' route. I heard that its a lot of work, and you'll make about $50,000 a year doing it, not exactly a lot of money.

I like working with clients, so I personally would say the personal trainer route sounds good, and if you like law enforcement go for that option too.

If you and your wife arent happy at your current location then I would definately suggest making a change. The thing you have to realize is the economy isnt good anywhere right now, not just louisiana. The big question when looking at careers is what type of skills you have. Obviously fitness is one, but do you have a degree or anything that would appeal to employers. I definately wouldnt make a commitment to moving before you found a job that could support your lifestyle. Since you already have experience in personal training, I would call some local gyms in the area you are looking to move to. Law enforcement or even a fire fighter could be a good choice but even those jobs can be hard to get without some type of degree. And it will take a while in those fields before your making decent money. I honestly would not even consider opening a business like a supplement store with the way the economy is. We are essentially in a recession and in a country where internet sales are so dominant I dont see much opportunity for an independent supplement store. Almost 80% of new businesses fail within the first 2 years they are open and of the 20% remaining half of them will fail within the first 5 years of operations. Your best bet if your set on moving is to find an area that you and your wife will be comfortable living in. Then call the gyms in the area and see if they have openings as a personal trainer. Then when you make the move and have a steady job lined up you can start looking at other career choices that might suit you better.

Is 50k a year not good in the US? Where i live in the UK £26k is average and it buys half of what you can buy with $26k.

You just got to do something you enjoy! I used to manage a dyeworks and it was ok but i felt stuck. I studied for 2 years and I now am an electrician and loving it.
