BRONCOS ASSIGNED LB MANUEL PADILLA AS PART OF NFL INTERNATIONAL PRACTICE SQUAD PROGRAM
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos were assigned Mexican linebacker Manuel Padilla as part of the National Football League’s International Practice Squad Program, it was announced on Friday.
Padilla (6-foot-3, 245 pounds) was a two-time all-star at Monterrey Tech, a private university located in Monterrey, Mexico. He played linebacker at the school from 2004-07, earning all-star honors in each of his final two seasons.
A native of Mexico, Padilla played high school football in southeastern California before enrolling at Monterrey Tech. He was born on Aug. 12, 1983.
Under the terms of the NFL’s International Practice Squad Program, Padilla will spend the entire 2008 season with the Broncos. He is eligible to compete in the club’s preseason contests but can not play in a regular-season game.
Padilla is one of 16 players from seven different countries who will participate in the program this year with teams from the AFC West, AFC North, NFC West and NFC South divisions.
The Broncos’ most recent player from the International Practice Squad Program was defensive tackle Patrice Majondo-Mwamba, a native of the Republic of Congo who spent the 2005 season in Denver.
