I'm a little confused with the idea of isometric "holds" while exerting maximum force for 6-9 seconds.

So I'm holding the bar on bench at the halfway point for 6-9 seconds? Or I'm holding a squat halfway down for 6-9 seconds? Thibs doesn't go into too much explanation on this.

My assumption here is it will get strengthen your lifts at the sticking points.The top and bottom points are generally the easier movements in most lifts.

I've only ever done isometrics on the full contraction (purposeful isometric 'sets') unless its at the absolute last rep, then I hold it where ever it happens to stop, the release slowly. I love it for calves and wide grip pull downs.

I've done a little bit of researching and it seems that an isometric lift depends on the person suggesting it. For instance some advise holding the weight at your sticking point for the 6-9 seconds. Some advise you to push/pull against an immovable object. I'll just have to figure it out myself.

And in further addendum I just ordered Matt Furey's Combat Conditioning course. I have no intention of joining the military but it looks interesting and I think it would be a good way to change things up every once in a while.
